Yesterday for me was a busy day and unfortunately I didn't get the chance to put my pancake skills to work. I do however have some very fond memories of growing up on a small farm part of a large family and the buzz of teatime with hot off the pan pancakes the meal of the day.
All eight of us around the large kitchen table with mum cooking the traditional pancakes on the range nearby. It was literally from pan to mouth, smothered in homemade butter and a good sprinkling of sugar - nothing else! No jam, no cream, no bananas and most of all no added flavours! Delicious...........with the butter running down your cheeks and your hands and butter knife a mess. It was the blue haze and the smell of hot butter which was used to oil the pan that I remember most. Simple family tea enjoyed by all. No photographs attached with this - its up to you to draw a picture in your head and pick out the smells.
